Bush Attacks Kerry on His Statements About Allawi

JANESVILLE, Wisconsin, Sept 24 (AFP) - US President George W. Bush accused Democratic White House hopeful John Kerry of turning his back on Iraq by doubting Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawis' upbeat forecasts for his country.

"You can't lead this country if your ally in Iraq feels like you question his credibility," Bush told supporters here a day after welcoming Allawi to the White House to help spread his optimistic view of the war-torn nations' future.

"The message ought to be to the Iraqi people: 'We support you.' The message ought to be loud and clear: 'We'll stand with you if you do the hard work,'" the president said at a campaign rally ahead of the November 2 election.
